It has been a fabulous fundraiser for many groups and continues to be. The problem, though, has been the dramatic increase in the price of the ingredients that go into frozen cookie dough. They continue to go up and there does no appear to an end in site.
Frozen cookie dough fundraisers, though, have been hit by a double whammy. The only way to get frozen cookie dough to customers is by shipping on either a refrigerated truck or by packing the product in dry ice and watching freight transit times to hope the product gets there in time. This freight burden has skyrocketed more than just the cost of the higher fuel prices trucking companies pay.
Every industry is burdened by higher freight costs. However the limited options to ship frozen products has really impacted the fundraising cookie dough industry. There have lots of proposals and even some changes. The most obvious move by most cookie dough producers was to shrink the size of their tubs or boxes of preformed cookie dough. That was a smart move.
Unfortunately for the consumer, though, the prices continued to go up. One company decided to shrink their tubs but lower their prices. The tubs are smaller than the other companies but the price point returned to the old days when people did not mind spending $10 on a tub of cookie dough.
In order for frozen cookie dough to remain viable in the fundraising industry more change will come.
