That's a question that has not been asked too often recently but it going to be more important as the next fundraising season or two pass. That's because the big discussion in candy fundraising is how do the manufacturers make money selling candy for a dollar.
All of the national candy manufacturers have shrunk their candy over the years. In fact there have been seasons where the uproar from the ever shrinking bar size threatened to kill of candy fundraisers altogether. But it seemed like people got used to the smaller sizes and candy sales remained relatively viable.
Times, though, have changed. The manufacturers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They do not believe they can shrink the sizes any more. Now the only option is to raise the prices. But what will the market bear?
There are different schools of thought out there about candy pricing. Some want to raise prices to $1.50 while others feel a $2 price point is much more doable. They reflect back to the days when candy transitioned from $.50 to $1.00 and the naysayers back then that said no one would pay a dollar for a candy bar.
So, as you plan future fundraisers, you need to ask yourself how much you would be willing to pay for a fundraising candy bar! If you feel $2 candy is too expensive you can consider some tried and proven brochure fundraisers like cookie dough fundraisers and candle fundraising.
