That's one of the most common questions we hear. The questioner usually provides their own answer when we follow up with a simple question of our own. We ask what kind of Fundraising Group they are part of and whether it is part of a public school.
If they are not part of a public school then they need to pay in advance for their purchase if they want to sell candy. A lot of the times upfront money is the finally decision maker on whether to sell candy or some other product. So the question to ask yourself is whether you, your group or a member of your group can lay out the cost of purchasing candy.
If not then you will want to consider doing one of the many pre sell or brochure Fundraisers that do not require any upfront cash. Cookie dough fundraisers have historically been one of the best brochure fundraisers. As all of the brochure programs, you use free brochures and order forms to pre sell the product with. You collect your money when pre selling and at the end of your sale you tally your orders together and place a bulk product order.
Once you receive the product you deliver the product to the people who had previously purchased and paid for the merchandise. Brochure sales eliminate not only the need to purchase candy or products advance and therefore lay out the money, they eliminate the need to guess how much you might sell. You only place your order after your sale is complete and you know what has already been sold.
Some programs such as cookie may require you to purchase products in full case quantities so you might need to order slightly more than you already sold, but that is muh better than just simply guessing how much you can sell and purchasing it in advance.
Candy fundraisers have been wonderful for years and years. If you choose to sell candy you can rest assured knowing it is one of the most tried and proven fundraising options. But if you would prefer to not lay out any money in advance, know that there are other options.
